Barcelona Sign Rising Sevilla Star

FC Barcelona have struck a deal with Sevilla FC to sign centre-back Jules Kounde.

According to a statement released on Barca’s official website on Thursday, 28 July, Kounde signed an agreement in principle with the Spanish club. The agreement will be finalised once he completes a medical and officially signs a contract.

The 23-year-old Frenchman’s deal is said to be worth €60 million – €50 million guaranteed, plus €10 million in add-ons – while the length of his contract is five years.

This signing comes a week after reports claimed that English club, Chelsea, were close to securing Kounde’s services – however, Barca coach Xavi Hernandez persuaded the youngster to make the move to Camp Nou.

“My conversation with Xavi was one of the main reasons for choosing Barcelona,” Kounde explained during an interview with a footballing media outlet. “I think we see football in the same way.”

He also expressed his excitement about the move: “I’m really proud, grateful. I can’t wait to join the team and start this Barcelona story. I say thanks to Sevilla, but of course Barca is a top step in my career – so here, I wanna win all competitions.”
